Tonight, Brittany and I headed to Grasshopper in Allston. Allston has a few vegan-friendly restaurants (a vegan pizza place being one of them!) but Grasshopper is definitely a popular one with the hip and cool folks of the Boston-area. Their food is strictly Chinese and/or asian style food, specifically Chinese food you would normally get at a non-vegan take-out place down the street. Think sesame chicken, sweet & sour chicken, lo-mein, and other traditional Chinese dishes.
I’ve tried a few different things here over the years and I still can’t believe their food is vegan. It’s too good to be true!
Brittany got vegetable tempura and “chicken” fingers (which was really tofu) with a sweet and sour sauce:
The food was excellent. Grasshopper is totally worth going to if you ever want straight-up, take-out-style (vegan) Chinese food. They also give you huge portions (see above), which is awesome if you love leftovers, or having Chinese food for breakfast the next day (like Brittany). Their prices are reasonable and the servers are friendly. The only thing bad thing is that this kind of food is,not surprisingly, unhealthy. Like any Chinese food place, there’s tons of sodium and fried food to be had, but in moderation this food is great every once in a while! We love it.
